Various airports (such as Paris, London, Birmingham and Manchester) are experimenting with so-called virtual boarding agents, these are virtual agents which for example kindly greet passengers when boarding or explain security measures before going through customs.
These virtual boarding agents are basically 2D holograms who always smile, don’t need breaks and don’t get bored by repeating the same message over and over again. By pressing a button, a digitised image of various agents appears onto the back of a piece of thin plexi-glass near the gates and departure areas, see video below:
