Alongside retinal scanning and fingerprints at airports, researchers have developed a method to identify a unique “pressure signature” in footsteps.
They were able to locate 70 key patterns unique to individuals by analysing 100,000 pressure points and this system has proven to be 99.6% accurate. The only downside of this technique is that the footsteps can only be identified if people are not wearing shoes. However, Dr John Goulermas, hopes to further develop this system so it will work when people are wearing shoes too.
