Originally held at University of Waterloo, the AI Challenge became an annual online event sponsored by Google. The contest attracts computer programmers, whether they are beginners or experts. All they have to do is to create an artificial intelligence multi-player strategy game, in any language, that satisfies several specified assumptions. What challenge is prepared for this year? Can you guess after the image presented below?
In 2011, participants’ objective is to create an artificial colony of ants which behaves as intelligently as possible. For example, ants have to be able to gather food, explore their territory and dominate colonies created by other participants. They have to invent intelligent strategies to survive by fighting with their enemies and preventing collisions in their own anthill.
The game’s description, specifications, and a couple of hints are explained in a detailed Ants Tutorial. All you have to do is to create your account, activate it and download a starter package - the whole process is described in a special Quickstart Guide. You have time until December 18th, when the current phase of the contest will end, and submissions shall close.
