Philip Hingston received the B.Sc. degree in Pure Mathematics from the University of Western Australia in 1978, and the Ph.D. degree in Mathematical Logic from Monash University, Melbourne Australia, in 1984.
He is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Computer and Information Science, Edith Cowan University, Australia. He was previously a Senior Research Scientist with Rio Tinto Plc. He recently co-edited Design By Evolution (Springer,2008). He organises the 2K BotPrize Contest - a Turing Test for video game playing bots. His research interests are in artificial intelligence, especially evolutionary computing, and its applications, particularly in industrial optimization and computer games.
Associate Professor Hingston is a member of the ACM and a senior member of the IEEE. He serves on a number of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society committees, chairing the task force on co-evolution, and is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Computational Intelligence and AI in Games.
