I’m a former US Submarine Electronics Chief with 12 years in the Navy. I’ve been working in a German manufacturing facility for 17 years in a variety of engineering, maintenance, and support positions. Most recently I spent 10 years in technical training as an instructor. Currently I’m a database/Excel programmer for our accounting group. I wrote my first program in 1981 on a Navy computer. I continue to program actively as a hobby. I compete in game programming competitions at. I code primarily in C++ (using DirectX for graphics). In 2009 I built an experimental and simple VBA based chat bot to answer health benefit questions. Most recently I’ve been working on an Excel tool that analyzes spreadsheet based accounting data and converts it to ‘human terms’. I have always wanted to build a ‘chat’ engine. This forum seems like the ideal place to ‘rub elbows’ with other AI enthusiasts. On May 31, 2010 I started work on a C++ console chat program to run on Windows. The concept is different from most bots. ‘Walter’ is a virtual bot that lives in a virtual world. The focus of this project is to get Walter to observe his surroundings and to answer questions about what he observes. That’s it. Loebner Prize? I don’t think so…that would require a whole lot of brains and time…I’ve got neither. =) |
