1990s-Yahoo-era directory of chatbots

> Facebook’s chatbot revolution slowed by problems with search and discovery

It would be much more helpful if there were a simple, centralized way for me to find chatbots. And hunting around for chatbots, I did come across a couple of useful sites.

The first is Chatbots.org, which looks like a 1990s-Yahoo-era directory of chatbots across many platforms. The site lists 1,193 chatbots, including 47 on Facebook. These Facebook Messenger goodies include: “Cyber Galaktioni,” which calls itself a “digital clone of famous Georgian poet Galaktion Tabidze, ‘The King of the Poets’ as they called him.

Dudes right, this site design IS outdated and good bots ARE hard to find.

If you close all the open category tabs, it’s almost like a proper menu. The “consumer themes” (or “topics”, for a more understandable term) should be at the top though. Language and country should be of secundary concern. Aside from the excessive lists of submenus the layout pretty much follows the modern standard.

I did not say the site is not functional, it certainly is, but there is no “wow”, and the site can come across as a 1990s link farm.

In fact, some of us have been doing it since the last chatbot craze….  grin

Botmadness reigns, botwars rage, as ever more complex chunks of code roam the Net and evolve toward a-life. It’s the great technodialectic, where every solution breeds a problem breeds a new solution.

This is a great thread.

34 years ago I made my first Chatbot, are we actually arrived yet do we think ?

Recently I was quoting an article out of a magazine called ‘Dialogue’ in 1991 where Mitchell Waldrop ( who, what ? ) was talking about “Can Computers Think”. Now that’s a long time back and the same issues are with us now.

So the big question.

How do we nail down a professionalism in Chatbot manufacturing right now ?  What needs to happen to give our market the same kudos, respect, controls and authoring as, say, the legal profession ?  Or the advertising profession ?

What do we need to do to ensure that the conversational system marketplace evolves according to the best outcomes of the general public as well as technologists, business people, academics, international governance organisations and such like ?
