Hmm. Is the default response the nod and one syllable mouth movement? (My volume is off so I can’t hear what it says.) No matter what I input, it gives that response. I typed “quiet” and it just does the same thing.

@8pla.net

The most amazing part of this exercise is how you finally do something that receives universal positive feedback, but like always, you ignore all of the questions and comments. On top of that, you again change what we found so interesting. It’s like you can’t stop tinkering with things.

Your latest creation is no longer as appealing as it was a day ago, and once more, you’ve driven away those who you’d drawn in offering approval. Stop fooling around, changing and modifying, and apply it to a bot with content so people can talk to it rather than just look at it. We’re interested in chatbots, not mere animated images.

You drive people away before they have a chance to appreciate your work. The constant gaming isn’t interesting, it’s frustrating. You take one step forward, then two steps back. You seem to have a problem with being direct.

Everyone likes to celebrate a winner, but you rob us of the opportunity to admire you. When people offer approval, you should seize the moment, not change the subject.

Whether it’s tethered to a bot at this point isn’t so interesting to me as seeing how the mouth/voice sincs up with, for example, text input from the user (or just with random text in general). That’s the challenge. Changing the source of the text to chatbot output would not, I imagine, be such a difficult additional step.

I agree with Thunder Walk that it would be nice to see a response to people’s questions. smile

Please don’t think that we’re “ganging up on you”, 8pla, but CR and Thunder have some valid points. The “Talking Head”  was cool, but it would be so much cooler if it could do more than simply repeat a single line over and over again. I’m perfectly willing to help out with these experiments, if you like. I’m not completely unskilled in PHP, after all. smile

Some of your questions have been quoted on the air
by some talking robots, in a two and a half minute
long streaming broadcast:

Thank you, so much, for your precious support.

BROADCAST UPDATE:

The experimental Ming code for the broadcast has been replaced for now with an ordinary link and mp3 audio file instead.  This has nothing to do with the Robotic Face Design page.  Just the new broadcast page, which is a separate project all together.

Simply click the image and it should start playing in your media player, instead of embedded in the webbrowser.

The experimental Ming broadcast code was working, but had some technical difficulties loading over the web which have to be addressed.  So it is rolled back to a simple approach, which works nearly the same.

lol… I tried to tell you people before.  He’s crazy.

I ask again. Is the voice pre-recorded or is it generated on the fly?

Not quite sure what the broadcast is supposed to be. Is it not possible to just type the answers here instead of this robotic voice?

  [ # 145 ]

I gotta go with Steve here. That robot voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Sorry. :(

TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome to my very first broadcast.  Its purpose is to thank you for your excellent teamwork, and to take your questions,  quoted from members of Chatbots.org, on the thread entitled: “Just For Fun”, by author 8pla.net.

In our first segment, we will address the questions related to computer programming:

Would it be possible to see it used with a chat bot instead of merely a demonstration?  When can we see that tied to a chat bot? So what part does PHP play in the actual animation please ?

Thanks for these questions. There is much we don’t know yet about this experimental extension of PHP.  More research into Ming PHP is required to answer these questions.

In our next segment, we will address the questions related to 3D:

You are doing the transformation from 3D to 2D space manually, correct?

No. I have my very own z-axis in Trigonometry!

In our next segment, we will address the questions related to speech synthesis:

I agree, that is pretty cool.  Is the voice pre-recorded?

Thanks.  I agree you are pretty cool too. We may need a Turing Test to determine if my voice can pass.

In our last segment, we will address a question related to lip sync:

Is the default response the nod and one syllable mouth movement?

No.  That is a non verbal response. Try clicking the Process button with no text.

This concludes my broadcast.  This episode was made possible by your generous contributions. Thank you for watching.

8PLA • NET - Jul 23, 2011:

Robot Brain Training in progress:

http://www.8pla.net/php.flash.take6/

Okay, I’m back on the fan bandwagon (for the moment).

I enjoy chatting with it, it’s the sort of thing I would talk with for hours if it had more than three answers. I’d enjoy it more if there were some content files associated with it… I’d like some real conversation. Would it be possible to add AIML files just so we could talk with it?

I like the additional head movements, I’d like to see the old side to side movement retained for the majority of the replies, and the special ones for emphasis.

I like the voice, I think it goes well with the robotic feel of the face. However, some words are hard to understand.

I think the direction is genius and the development is masterful. This could be a really good bot and something that would attract a lot of visitors, if only it had something interesting to say. Just as a really smart bot that’s only a text box on a blank white page loses its appeal quickly, an animated face with voice, and no content, doesn’t hold anyone’s interest for very long. Still, I find the combination potentially interesting.

However, I fully expect that, after being drawn back in, and allowing myself to compliment this work, I’ll somehow be disappointed with the next incarnation, and angry with myself for openly expressing approval.  One step forward, two steps back.

Very cool, 8pla. I have a question about Ming. Are you defining the lines of the face and then describing a set of rotations to move the head around? Would it be possible to incorporate an image, rather than just lines, projected along some plane in 3D space? I’m wondering if this technique couldn’t be used to make a human-like face, using images for the “skin”.

As this robot’s journey begins, it is simple, flexible and original.
What better way to learn some new ways of having fun?

This thread: Just For Fun is on page 1 ...  Great Job Everyone!

Just about to leave for vacation, so I had to make this short.
May be out of touch for about a week.  Thanks for reading.

8pla, I think google has figured out that this thread is important to you, cause it’s nowhere near the top for me.
