Ooh, look what I found:

Good luck there Mitsuku!

Will be very interested to see how this goes.

Thanks for the info and link, Andrew!

That’s an interesting investment opportunity. I’m wondering, though, why Steve didn’t let us know about this himself.

Steve? What gives? raspberry

Well, if it was me I’d be waiting for someone to find it accidentally in order to:

a) get a sense of how fast people learn about it, and

b) avoid being accused of spamming the forum.

I make a habit of checking IndieGoGo and KickStarter for interesting software projects every now and then, partly because I’ve been thinking about trying something like that myself, and partly because there is some pretty cool stuff going on there.

Perhaps it has something to do with Apple banning Flash from the iPhone:

Did Steve Jobs kill Mitsuku for simply being Flash based?

I didn’t mention it here, as I though it might be classed as spam. It’s only raised $25 so far and so I don’t think it’s going to happen. Lots of Mitsuku’s users say they would like an app and a lot would pay for one but I don’t plan on gambling the $4000-$5000 it would cost to have someone design one.

I got the idea from seeing Steve Grand’s post at Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1508284443/grandroids-real-artificial-life-on-your-pc and seeing the enormous success he had. However, Kickstarter only hosts American based projects.

Yep, had the iphone used Flash, I could have done it myself.

I think the keyword here is ‘say’, not ‘pay’!

The iphone is supposed to support silverlight, although I haven’t tested it myself. But since you can convert flash xml into silverlight xml, it might be something to consider (I am doing my online version in silverlight).

Doesn’t android support flash?

According to this article, Flash has been available for Android for over a year now. Still waiting for an improvement on the beta version that is all that is available for 64-bit Linux though. Apparently Adobe has decided to finally start supporting 64-bit Linux properly so we mightn’t have to wait too much longer. In the meantime, I’m saving up for an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S2.

Curious how the donation program will workout for you. We’ve created a custom ‘Individual Sponsorship Program’ a while ago on the Global Speakers Federation website (Federation of National Speakers Associations, associations for professional - paid - speakers) and that already raised the crazy amount of USD 2,873.02.

http://www.globalspeakers.net/federation/sponsors

The key success factor here was that people knew each other, and they wanted to be visible on the GSF homepage (the top 10 is shown in the footer). We have some additional ideas to improve it, but it’s still quite inspiring.

Well so far I received the princely sum of $25 after 60 or so days, so it isn’t going to provide the funds I need. However, I have been approached by a company who saw the donation page and have shown an interest in developing the app for free. I assume they have seen the profit potential of such an app and I am currently in talks with them.

Watch this space, as they say.

You might try:
http://swiffy.googlelabs.com/
it converts Flash to HTML5.

Cool Steve! Go for it! Keep us posted!

Here’s another Artificial Intelligence related IndieGoGo campaign that reached it’s target within hours of launching.

http://www.indiegogo.com/SBCL-Threading-Improvements-1

Did I mention that even if it is not your main language, you should at least have some knowledge of Lisp programming? Trying to study artificial intelligence without knowing some Lisp would be like trying to study french literature without knowing French. Yes, you could do it, but you’d be taking the long slow boring route.

The aforementioned IndieGoGo fundraiser for SteelBank CommonLisp has been running for a total of 15 hours so far, and has now raised $4000 out of the original target of $3000. There are still 21 days to go, so next pay day I’ll be making a contribution as well.

You know what I find interesting: all these open source projects, which are supposed to be ‘free’, are starting to search for money. What’s the matter? are they beginning to realize that ‘free’ doesn’t really pay very well?

CHATTER ROBOT IN LISP

How about a quick video demo
on running a chatter robot in Lisp
on Ubuntu Linux version 10.10 ?
