That’s pretty cool 8pla. I hope you did that with some sort of tool?

Neat
I think your question is posed backwards though: As a ______, why did you pick AI Research to do just for fun? (Fill in the blank!)

Um…
8pla, you know how some people need to be told when they’ve become “over the top”?
I think you’re nearing the summit, here.

You’ve heard of ASCII Art, haven’t you?
Well, I just invented BBCode Art !

Very nice. You’ve inspired me, by the way. take a look at this page.
Note: Take a look at the page source, and you’ll see what I meant by you inspiring me.
[edit]
I know that it’s not technically ASCII art, since no text is printed out, but… It is pretty.
Also: Beware of the “Big Grin” ‘image’ - At an image size of 250x250 pixels, the script generates 62,589 lines of code! The rest only generate just over 10,000. As you can see, this method isn’t viable for large images, but smaller ones (around 100 pixels or less) do well.

Nifty idea Dave. I didn’t see the “Big Grin” option though?

I had to remove it, since it took something on the order of 30 seconds+ for it to load. the resulting file was nearly 7MB in size. I have unlimited bandwidth on my server, but still…

Marcus on another thread said, “Speech-out is fairly straight forward at this point, text-to-speech; however, speech-in or speech-to-text while do-able is still problematic at this point, though changing quickly.”

That error may be a false negative, related to heavy internet traffic.
Try it again, Dave.
I know you got an error. However, I just clicked the link
(without changing any code) and it worked fine.
Thanks, so much for the feedback!
EDIT: I only tested it in Firefox on Linux, not IE yet.
I’ll get my Windows 7 laptop out. That may be a factor.

UPDATE:
It runs fine on IE8 in Windows 7 64bit.
And it runs perfectly in Safari on a brand new iMac. (Awesome!)
No code changes have been made since Dave’s initial error report above.
Once again…
Thank you Dave for helping me debug my unfinished proof of concept.
I really appreciate the feedback, very much.
If anyone is having trouble loading it, please let me clarify that it is not due to entertainment purposes. No playing jokes, etc. Not that’s there’s anything wrong with that, but this is simply an early prototype of a real bot that speaks interactively. As a prototype it does not have much data yet, but that’s by design… Easier to debug that way with a small data set. It does have some data now, enough for testing it out. More data can be added later once it is more stable.
Oh! Before I forget… I am happy I inspired you, Dave…
That was very cool what you did, on this thread.

I’m glad you liked it, Sir. I had a lot of fun making that page, and if memory serves, that’s what this thread is about.
No ISE this time, and it worked well. The voice sounds cute, but she’s no Loquendo Elizabeth. Those British~esque accents are just too… Um… Never mind.
[edit]
I used the following browsers, BTW:
Firefox 4.0.1 Win32 (XP SP3)
IE 8.who cares?
Safari 5.0.3
Opera 11.11
Google Chrome 8.0.552.224
The only issue I had was that Chrome took forever to process the voice. Tried several times, each attempt took at least 12 seconds. Most likely it’s a traffic issue, though. Other than that, no problems.

I don’t understand the “Proof of Concept”. It’s not a bot, and it doesn’t answer questions or respond to input, it sseems to be just a voice generator… it repeats what you type. What’s the purpose?
