International Chatbot Contest

It sounds like Morti is sympathetically hurting and healing right along with you!  Perhaps Morti has finally become sentient!

Ok, I’ve got the links to the bots back up.

The first round of the Knockout Stage is up. Each match is presented in a flash video at the contest site for dramatic effect. grin  Regarding the videos the Mitsuku verse Skynet AI got my most attention as Mitsuku was the #1 seed.

You’re going to have to visit the website to see how the matches turned out.

Very nice Kevin!  Loved the touch of dramatics using Flash! For the next round, can you put the bots in 3D, add battle blades and have them rip each other to shreds in a death match? grin  Seriously, you are doing an excellent job of running this battle and your time and efforts are certainly appreciated!

Yes, nice work on the videos. I really enjoyed the presentations. Well, Steve it looks like Talk-bot and Mitsuku next. I’m looking forward to this. Good luck to you.

Congratulations Steve and the others that are moving on.

The next round between Talk-Bot and Mitsuku pairs some of the oldest chatbots out there.

I am currently out of the country (in schipol airport - amsterdam) and my phone doesn’t have flash to see the results but i guess it is a win for mitsuku judging by the comments. Good luck to you too wendell

Yes Mr Jet-setter; another win for Mitsuku, well done smile

No dispute to the contest results intended.  I accept the judges’ decision as final.

I just wish I knew why v1ra scored zeros on this, to help improve her search algorithms?

1)have you ever taken drugs before? 0 0 0
v1ra:\A.I.\> One what? Suggesting (calculating) Before (reckoning) In front of preceding
in space ahead of as to stand before the fire before the house… Possibly (thinking) Ever
(bountiful) At any time at any period or point of time… Judging (myriad) Taken (manifold)...
Of Take…

v1ra thinks it through and then slowly works out an answer to the question

Judging (myriad[extremely great number]) Taken (manifold [many and various])

In other words means…

1)have you ever taken drugs before?
Judging extremely great number taken many and various.

Congrates to Mitsuku! (this is starting to become a common theme wink  )

Thanks Jan - I just watched the video. Very funny. I’m going to watch the others now.

Tom,

And this is no disrespect to you. In fact, you should view this as a compliment. I think your bot and it’s responses are on a different intellectual plane than the common person. I speak on the website about “The rules are reasonable and designed with a common sense approach.”

When judging the bots we are looking for responses that your normal, average person would say. Examples -  have you ever taken drugs before?

Of course not. Drugs are bad for you.
I take prescription drugs but not illegal ones.
yes I take drugs to control my blood pressure.
etc.

When you have judges(including myself) expecting those types of responses and then you come across a bot like V1ra it just doesn’t work. If you are happy with your approach to answering questions that’s fine, However, I don’t see it working that well in a contest. Certainly not in the Loebner where you are attempting to fool the judges. No human would respond like that but also in this contest as well. Clear, precise answers are going to score higher.

Contest Update:

Based on feedback we received we have decided to ask 15 questions/statements in the Quarter Final Round and 20 questions/statements in the Finals.

The idea here is 10 questions may not be enough to show a clear winner. 15 questions in this round and 20 in the finals gives us more to work with.

I like that idea, Kevin. The later rounds should be more challenging then the preliminary rounds, anyway, and increasing the “size” of the test is a good way to acheive that. smile

Oh great.  More opportunities for Izar to fall on his face!

I heard a news report on the radio, by a lady reporter, (so no offense to women) that research shows women talk three times more than men.  “Perhaps, our brains are wired differently?”, asks the new report.  So, if we may apply that research to chatbot contest policies, then male chatbots may have an advantage over female chatbots.

Thanks for your excellent feedback… I’ll be studying it to try to extrapolate problem-solving operations.  If you think of anything else like this, it is valuable, so please share.  Let me repeat that no criticism at all is intended toward the contest.  It was a great contest!
