Is there a masterlist of AIML Editors available anywhere?
Has a “history” of AIML Editor development been published anywhere?
I suppose this should include general XML Editors as well; so, what would be your favorites?
I know Adeena Mignogna has done work in this area, and will send her a pointer to this thread.
I’m particularly interested in finding an AIML Editor with convenient CSV export….

According to the Annabot project http://bit.ly/x7rvRe .. Altova @XMLSpy is the best XML editor & XSLT processor for #AIML knowledgebases ..

I’ve never come across a list of AIML editors, and I know of only a few that are “dedicated” specifically to AIML. The two major ones that come readily to mind are:
1.) Gaitobot AIML Editor
2.) AIMLpad (Sadly, Gary’s website no longer exists, so I think that AIMLpad is no longer available)
Personally, I use the same IDE for creating raw AIML files that I do for working on PHP/HTML files (Webuilder 2008). Other editors that work well for editing AIML (as XML) files are:
1.) Eclipse
2.) Stylus Studio
3.) Microsoft Visual Studio
I’m sure that there are others, as well.

I tried the “Ai-Dealer” AIML Editor by Brian Hoecht, but was not impressed with its “special” functions, so never put it to any real use.

I’ve also tried the GaitoBot AIML Editor, but didn’t find it particularly memorable either.

I guess you could also add the Pandorabots training interface if you have a Pandorabot. I personally use Notepad but I guess I’m just a masochist
There are these but I haven’t tried them:
AIMLscintilla_chung

Fox Editor

There was a collaboration and editing tool called DIDO which allowed more than one person at once to work on a file but it was by invitation only and never really took off.

Yeah, I miss DIDO. I think that the underlying premise was a good one, but just didn’t garner the attention/support that it deserved. I think that the biggest reason for it’s demise was that we AIML botmasters just don’t like sharing. (well, for the most part, we don’t)

Hi Marcus,
Are you looking for something in particular? RICH has a desktop management tool but the RICH Architecture is quite a bit different than AIML. I might be able to knock you up something fairly quickly though .

Hi Vincent, thanks for the offer. Dave has also kindly offered his help too. At the moment I’m just looking for the most convenient way to convert back and forth between CSV<=>AIML. I thought a review of the AIML Editor options might reveal one with this feature. I’m still trying to marry Mindmaps with AIML, converting both ways, one into the other. I’m neither a database expert nor a PHP expert, though have dabbled in both. I did find Richard Wallace’s recent explanations in the “Jan’s AIML importer” topic encouraging. Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions!

AND…make that ‘nested’ tables
I have GOT to start using the preview button LOL.
OK I have something put together, let me play with it some to make sure it doesnt have any obvious disasters lurking and ill make it available.

Alright, this relates to my previous work with sitemaps and bookmarks, see above link. Actually, I believe it’s the XML Bookmark Exchange Language (XBEL) that has the ability to represent nesting. And, according to Richard Wallace’s recent explanations in the “Jan’s AIML importer” topic, AIML follows a “tree” structure, as represented in my XPath HTML5 parser screenshot, also under the above link.

Trust me, Vince; right now, you do NOT want to use that “Preview” button. It often takes up to several minutes for the resulting page to load, and has been known to come back as a “404” page, causing you to lose your post. This is a problem that we’re looking into, but we haven’t yet found a fix for it.
BTW, a built-in spell checker helps a lot, too.

@Dave no doubt…no doubt
@Marcus OK then should be no worries. I wrote it in VB.Net as VB is easier for anyone following it to port. Backdated it on .net version so the binary should run on anything. Just finishing up the csv export so that it will export any number of columns. Ill just zip it as there arent any registry or other installation consideratons, but I can build an installer for it if it turns out to be anything you can use.
