I am looking for debugging commands that would produce the output of system functions. I thought :do would work since for :do pos(noun word plural) it returns words but :do find(~animals horse) gives me a FAILRULE result.

yes, but find is not a recursive function. It’s job is to tell you the position of something in a set. The set ~animals consists of other concepts, not of the word horse.
