As you might know, they also run Elbot, the chatbot who participated many times in the Loebner Prize.

In reality, Elbot’s response is actually about defending a wrong answer whether it be a math problem or a general knowledge questions.

I think (social) psychology is very useful for conversation, but I prefer to use it for something more meaningful than luring the user into a stalling spree. I didn’t know Elbot was made for that.

ASTRID (our system) will also defend a wrong answer (in her case it’s actually her ‘assumption’), as long as she is convinced she’s right. Of course, giving her enough facts to the oposite will eventually ‘change her mind’ wink
