Hey folks,
Just wanted to post to say that I’ve done some transcribing of my bot Zoe’s conversations during the Loebner finals. You can see it here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/18wvd9_hoGu8_Nl58KcGrQGH9VEku15fxqiIZD5HU6hA/edit
In addition to transcribing, I did some annotating so you can see what was going on in Zoe’s head a little bit. Just for fun.
Comments/questions always appreciated! As are tweets and any other method of sharing this…
Thanks!
-Adeena

I appreciated your note making reference to “technical difficulties”. I’ve been waiting and wondering when we’d see the final round transcripts and knowing there were problems makes the waiting a little easier. I think the contest organizers might do themselves (and the contest) a favor if they’d make an announcement that there was an issue and they’re working on it… if, in fact, someone actually is.

So update logs were just posted yesterday over on Robitron. I haven’t had a time to look at them yet.
But they did something new and neat this year… they posted videos of the screen capture of each round. I think this is neat. Here are links to all of them:

Adeena, I watched Zoe’s first round video (well, most of it), and I must say that while I could tell right off which “other” she was (the chalk or cheese thing was a giveaway, and her competitor was spot on with the irony and mild sarcasm), I think that her answers were pretty good. I’ll have to watch the rest of the videos when I have more time.

Hey Dave,
Thanks!
I think for a bot, she actually did pretty well. There were some obvious (to me, anyway) errors… one or two things I really have to fix and then a couple things that I did intend to be different in the Loebner Finals than the “real” Zoe…
The first round was actually the worst, I think because with her slow typing (will fix that next year… I didn’t realize how slow it really was!) the judge kept asking and asking and asking and she couldn’t catch up! The other Judges in the other rounds were generally more patient, and I think it made for better conversations… still obvious which one was the bot…
Oh I have so much work to do… lol!

I don’t know about you, but I felt the youtube videos were lacking. However, I did enjoy the LoebnerPlayer and the way it displayed the transcripts the past couple of years, so I’ve converted the text on the html pages to .txt files and it seems to be working.
Probably the best feature of the player is how it reproduces the chat sessions in real time even showing the confederat’s responses. I also like how you can speed up or slow down the rate of the chat.
You can download it here.

Sorry, the 2009 version doesn’t seem to work but the 2010 version does.
Download it here.

Yeah, that’s what I like about the videos… that it shows both sides of the conversation in real time.
In preparing for the contest, I had friends and family chat with Zoe. I asked several of them to look at last year’s transcripts with the LoebnerPlayer so that they would get a feel for the actual contest. Not many did… just because everyone is nervous about downloading/running executables they don’t know well. The youtube videos makes it easier for me to share that aspect with them.

I don’t understand why they weren’t published at the Loebner Prize page the way they usually are. Any idea?

Over on the yahoo Robitron group, Hugh Loebner posted about having lots of various computer/internet/technical issues when he returned to the contest. I think he just hasn’t had the time/patience to do it (yet). :D
