Just For Fun

  [ # 91 ]

Again, I think you are missing the point, Thunder Walk. The theme for this bot appears to be that you can see the internal code that leads to the given response. An interesting wrapper that could, probably, be applied to any AIML bot. Fun to look at, at any rate. And probably useful for the developer as well.

If the only thing you’re looking for is original bot dialogue, why are you still reading this thread??

  [ # 92 ]

I would say 8PLA • NET’s expertise/examples lies more in “Bot User interface” or rapid “Bot Deployment” and less along the lines of “Bot AI or Bot dialogue” techniques.

Exactly.

If you’re confident, content, and satisfied, why are you so concerned with my opinions?

If these numerous examples are of such value, where are the chatbots that employ them?

I’m sorry, I don’t understand your question. What does any of this have to do with being “confident, content, and satisfied”? With his work? With my own? Really, I’m at a loss. I’m merely commenting on the fact that, in the confines of his own thread, a member is posting work on chatbot interfaces and he’s getting bombarded with criticisms that are completely irrelevant to what he’s developed. It’s been going on for a while, and I thought such ridiculous comments deserved some sort of retort.

Look, I get that he’s baiting you by suggesting your comments are helpful and are contributing towards the development of his bots. But really. Either he’s missing your point about contributing unique content to bot development or you are missing his point about the goal of his little projects.

You’ve made your point that you are only interested in bot content. Now just move on.

Really? A guy posts an idea in a thread titled “Just for Fun” and you’re asking why the troops haven’t moved out to make use of them all?

Okay, I think I’ve made my point now. I’ve put my two cents out there; 8pla can shift for himself.

I’ve spent the last half hour, trying to come up with words here. All I can come up with is “we’re reaching the threshold here”. I’ll leave it up to all of you just what that means. raspberry

(some days, the words tumble forth like a rain-swollen mountain stream. Some days, they “stick in my throat” like a firmly lodged chicken bone. This is a “chicken bone” day.)

Ooh! I got some now!
“The ‘just for fun’ thread… isn’t, any more.”

Chatbot Brain Surgery

I like it!  Pretty much what my development bot interface looks like, except it also shows the each of the sequential input reductions.  It would be cool to have an interface that shows related words/ideas to each input too (drawn from the cloud or from something like http://www.wordnik.com/).

Damned if I do…

Thunder Walk - Jun 15, 2011:

Really now, what’s the need for yet another meaningless display, and merely an unaltered ALICE clone at that?

Damned if I don’t…

Thunder Walk - Jun 7, 2011:

Have you ever made a bot with content?

Thunder Walk - May 29, 2011:

I simply wondered why you wouldn’t add free content when it would be so simple.
I know you’re familiar with AIML.

Thunder, strictly for the sake of conversation… Pick on me… Before you pick on C R Hunt. Not that C R can’t take care of herself.  She sure can. But, you are my old nemesis, Thunder! I am the one you banned from A.I. Nexus for posting a 3D animated avatar video.

It’s just not fair for you to expect C R Hunt to know about that. Lastly, I took Dave Morton’s advice to do my best to behave well at CBO. And I suggest you do the same. So, very clearly… No offense or embarrassment is intended by any of these comments.  The quotes and remarks above are intended as humor only.  Am I making myself clear?

So, let’s get back to having fun…

Now prepped for the lobotomy, the question is, will the chatbot ever be the same after

CHATBOT BRAIN SURGERY

Hand me that scalpel Igor! Let’s get started on the next invasive procedure of

CHATBOT BRAIN SURGERY

  [ # 101 ]

This will be my last and final post on the matter, as some are getting their knickers in a twist.

For the record, I have always believed that 8PLA • NET is a true genius, and I’ve been impressed with his talent.  My complaint has been that he wastes his knowledge and abilities on trivia, that his submissions are useless, repetitive, and chest-beating attempts to gain attention.  Why is anyone surprised that he’s gained my attention?  The “Just for Fun” thread started with some ASCII Art, followed by the claim, “I just invented BBCode Art !”  Translated - “Look at me, look at me, look what I’ve created.”

8PLA • NET and I share some history.  Some time ago, eventually I felt that I had to ban him from the AI Nexus Forum.  Back then he called himself “nexties” and he posted his link to his forum, “8pla.net”.  He was doing and saying all sorts of bizarre things.  He’d make outlandish claims, but when asked for specifics, he’d post some sort of fake CNN video he’d created, or a T-Shirt with your name on it.  He seldom answered directly, argued about the forum rules, and do just about anything to attract attention to himself.

He claimed that he’d been a judge in the Loebner Prize competition, but refused to give his name.  He claimed his bot had passed the Turing Test, but when asked for proof, he posted the same video that’s posted here in the Popup Video thread he started under the Development section in the Tools board.
http://www.youtube.com/v/N6dB3MiCkZA&autoplay=1&rel=0&showinfo=0&loop=1 .

When the Chatterbox Challenge set up a “committee” to save the contest, both 8PLA • NET and I were involved.  We were given strict instructions that internal communications were to be kept private, however, 8PLA • NET would post the internal discussions as though they were a public affairs press release.  The contest owner was thoroughly miffed, and barred 8PLA • NET from the committee.

8PLA • NET got himself named as a presenter a the Chatbots 3.0 Conference held in Philadelphia on March 2, 2010.
3:45 Tom, Planet8, Open Source Chatbot Technology.

Since there were videos of many of the speakers, I went looking for the segment delivered by Tom, but there was none.  As it turned out, Tom never made it to the Conference.

Without actually saying the words, 8PLA • NET has implied that he’s entered the Loebner Competition.  Perhaps there will be a transcript we can all appreciate, and I’ll be happy to eat my words.  But, so far, all I’ve seen from 8PLA • NET is smoke and deception, and not much substance.

  [ # 102 ]

Thunder Walk, I appreciate your frustration and contempt for the type of behavior you’re describing. Obviously I’m unfamiliar with your past history with 8pla. And I’m not interested in dredging anything up or reinvigorating old complaints.

But past trolling does not excuse current trolling. I hope you two can leave that to your private conversations (or lack thereof) and not infuse this board with snide remarks, irrelevant comments, and other passive aggressive behavior. It’s tiring for others to wade through to get to relevant topics.

Ok, this is my last post on the matter as well.

Before we get back to having fun… Seriously, Thunder has made several useful contributions
to this thread.  So, [fun starts]... Thank you Dr. Thunder Walk… Here is an example:

Thunder Walk - Jun 13, 2011:

inverting pronouns isn’t something of a miracle when it comes to chatbots.  AIML bots do a fairly good job of it (although not perfectly or every time)

What is the diagnosis for chatbots who can not
perfectly invert pronouns [and verbs] every time?

Maybe these chatbots need… CHATBOT BRAIN SURGERY

Sounds like we may have just found our very first
invasive procedure to practice on the patient.
