just picked the default one. Interesting question. We (Chatbots.org) regulary got questions like this. For example: I’m looking for chatbots that can be used by academic teachers.
Actually, our directory has a few of those categories listed, listed in the ‘features’ area:
http://www.chatbots.org/features/customer_service/
http://www.chatbots.org/features/knowledge_management/
http://www.chatbots.org/features/mediation/ (i.e. reproducing an existing or passed away human being)
http://www.chatbots.org/features/marketing_sales/
http://www.chatbots.org/features/research/ (things in laboratories )
http://www.chatbots.org/features/proof_of_concept/ (only reason existence is to prove where technology of a certain vendor is capable of)
Thinking about this, we actually need to create a new group called ‘purpose’ (the reason why the chatbot exists). This is a draft of the categories:
-service, sales, promotion (representing a brand or organization, also brand agent)
-information retrieval (more or less similar to knowledge management/????)
-mediation, reproducing someone else. I’m very open to suggestion for a new name for this category
-tutor (teaching, instructing)
-role (a virtual patient for example, mentioned on our virtual human page)
-social (friends, buddies, entertainment)
-research (test objects, optimized on some skills)
-proof of concept
Would love to hear suggestions about:
-name of this group ‘purpose’???
-new name for ‘mediation’ (like iGod, Einstein chatbot, John Lennon chatbot, Barack Obama chatbot etc.)

Interesting one Hans,
“Virtual Consciousness” or “Non-human Consciousness” perhaps ?
To test theories of consciousness.
Erwin, I will give those questions some thought.

Indeed, and well put Victor.
There seems to be some naming already being accepted, like ‘machine consciousness’ and indeed ‘virtual consciousness’. I like ‘silicon consciousness’ as opposed to biological consciousness’ (also already coined somewhere sometime by someone).

I’m a fan of ‘machine consciousness’ as well.
‘silicon consciousness’ is not bad, but of course you can make semiconductors from other material like germanium.
More specific than ‘machine consciousness’ but not overly specific as ‘silicon consciousness’ would be ‘digital consciousness’. Which would distinguish it from ‘quantum consciousness’ (with quantum computing coming in the next few decades, or sooner!)

Victor, great names. I agree that ‘digital consciousness’ has a great ring to it.

I’ve always been partial to “Synthetic Intelligence”, myself. The term “Artificial” has always had the connotation of “Imitation” to me, whereas “Synthetic” carries the meaning of “Manufactured”, or “Created”.

That works, too, Victor. And there’s less chance of the acronym being mistaken for a popular sports periodical.

one of the things we are trying to implement on our AI is automatic programming. Software that builds another software or web application and site by just giving it the project details in Natural language

LovingLogic
This is also a goal for CLUES. My intention is to have it actually read and understand natural language of a given API. And based on that, and its goals (also of course stated in NL), assemble the program by knowing how to build the logic tree. In my documentation, I refer to a program as a logic tree.
Also, I want it to be able to discuss the work it has done so far (if it couldn’t fully achieve building the entire program for the given goal). Based on interaction, it could be given more info in NL to continue its work.
