The Google AJAX Language Detect API:

It’s part of the Google Language API familly
http://code.google.com/apis/language/

I personally believe this can be used by allchatbots, just to test the language. If the language is not supported, the chatbot can always return: ‘sorry I don’t speak <language>’

In the demo below ‘welke taal is dit?’, is Dutch indeed btw.

With JAIL, as a test for the next version of Skynet-AI
I am looking at using the API to detect the language, convert to English, have Skynet respond, and then convert back to the original language.

We have been discussing it on the JAIL thread.

hahaha. As a Dutch native, I use Google Translate sometimes to translate something into dutch, but rarely my own site, and certainly not the home page.

Have you ever tried to check on our country pages btw like:
http://www.chatbots.org/nl

If a country has only one language, the country page is displayed in the local language.

The text is entered manually because the quality is far better in that case, but in 20 years from now, we won’t need that anymore.
