How to implement a Chatscript bot that talk Spanish

  [ # 16 ]

I can’t tell you why your files dont recognize your word without actually having the ability to build and test myself or perhaps a log file with :trace all turned on.

You can email me your files and I can see what happens.

Hi Bruce,
My bot is called MARIEL
its four *.top files are equal to the Harry four *.top files
just I renamed the childhood.top to main.top
and put inside it just two simple rules
one with áéíóú and another with ñ spanish characters

Hope you can help me, Thanks Advanced.

PD: lets say I complitly avoid using the á,é,í,ó,ú,ñ  unusual characters, isn’t there any way to perform a spell check in spanish? I say so because is the most usefull tool, that get used every single volley.

Thanks Advanced. Bruce.

Worked for me.

I took your main.top, added in your spanish manana as a keyword and as a pattern in a rule. Put it also into an empty file.
Then :build your data, :restart , login,  :source my file with the word, and it worked fine.

So… dont know where you went wrong.

I could imagine if you are not coming from a server or source file (both of which can insure utf8) that your keyboard was not sending in utf8.  Try putting your input in a file and using :source on it to see.

Hi Bruce
I created a manana.txt file with a text “mañana” inside it, and save it in the REGRESS folder
then I open the MARIEL bot (with the mañana pattern added)
and put source: REGRESS/manana.txt
many times, but it did not work, the engine just does not recognize the word mañana.
If I put another english word inside the manana.txt file it works fine.
I am running windows 8.1 64bits
my keyboard language is set to English (United States)-International Keyboard
I have MySQL installed

I have try to install Chatscript again, but the same, what do you suggest?

  [ # 21 ]

well, not sure what you actually did. because you wrote

source: REGRESS/manana.txt

whereas I wrote the debug command

:source   xxxx

  [ # 22 ]

Hi Bruce
I created and empty text file with the word “mañana” and saved as manana.txt inside the ChatScript-5.1\REGRESS folder (like explained in the debug manual), then I open the MARIEL bot (with the mañana pattern added) Open Chatscript.exe :build MARIEL, :reset and then put… :source REGRESS/manana.txt (like explained in the debug manual). but it does not detect my “mañana” pattern. Like I said if I put another english word without the “ñ” character an put… source: REGRESS/manana.txt the pattern is catch and I get its output text.

Pls Bruce, give me advice.

EDIT> sorry Bruce my mistake, of course I did :source (just customed to put : after the words, not before)

  [ # 23 ]

I have not looked at the debug manual to see if I have a typo yet.

You keep saying source:  but the correct thing to type is :source

  [ # 24 ]

But it sounds like you did the right thing…. SO…..
email me your files including your input file with your spanish word in it.
Let me test it.  I am running the current newly release CS 5.2   -  are you?

  [ # 25 ]

sorry Bruce my mistake, of course I did :source (I’m just customed to put : after the words, not before them,) so I mistype when writing the previous post but I did the debug with :source xxxx.
Oh, So I will install this new 5.2 version (I’m running 5.1 version)

I’m uploading the four *.top files that came with Harry
I just renamed the original childhood as main.top and replace its contents with the spanish words characters “áéíóú” and “ñ”.

Thanks Advanced, Bruce.
PD> Perhaps I could use a parser to replace those spanish letters when receiving users inputs.

So…  You did not add manana as a keyword to your main.top topic (so it wouldnt route there).
and you added manana as the first word of a gambit doing:
t: manana () ...

which is meaningless for pattern matching.
And your source file seemed to be in ansi.

So…
I added manana to your keyword list.
I added a rule at the top of your file:
u: (managa) This is it

and I saved your source file as utf8.  Rebuilt, and it worked.

  [ # 28 ]

Hi Bruce,
I downloaded ChatScript-5.2

I erased mañana as the first word of a gambit (I didn’t know what else to try)

I added two rules at the top of my main.top file…
u: (mañana) this is the mañana word
and…
u: (manana) this is the manana word

also I have gambits with rejoinders like…
t: lets test the words mañana and áéíóú
  #! mañana
  a: (mañana) you said mañana
  #! manana
  a: (manana) you said manana

I run ChatScript, I reset I rebuild MARIEL, and the same result…
If I type “manana” I get the preestablish output: “this is the manana word”
If I type “mañana” It just jump to the next rule.
When the script launch the gambit: “lets test the words mañana and áéíóú”
if I type the “manana” I get the preestablish rejoinder output: “you said manana”
if I type the “mañana” It just jump to the next rule.

I am running ChatScript-5.2 on a windows 8.1 laptop
I do saved the the four *.top files as utf-8, (also save the filesMariel.txt as utf-8)

what am I doing wrong????
When you say you added manana to the “keyword list” you mean the pattern, right??

I added manana to your keyword list.

I don’t understand when you said (I guess is a typo)

I added a rule at the top of your file:
u: (managa) This is it

I mean “managa” is different that “mañana”
Just in case there was any doubt, I am talking about this letter…

and about this word…

Thanks Advanced Bruce.

So….I meant add the keyword to the topic keywords list. I have done that for childhood.top so that if you type in manana (with accent) it will route to that topic and find your u: (manana with accent) and reply.

The attached zip is your files with my 1 edit, + my test file (main.txt) which you should move to the top level of chatscript.  Then :build your chatbot with these files.  then do
:source main.txt

It works fine for me.

ahh The trick was adding the word mañana to the topic keyword list, my fault. Thanks Bruce
So, I donwloaded your files and test it, then the engine recognize the word “mañana” but only if i run the :source main.txt not when I type that word directly in the engine.
But, one I use the ProsgreSQL it will do recognize the áéíóúñ characters directly right?
THanks Bruce for all, now I will learn how to setup the ProgresSQL.
