Just was pointed to this neat little service, a basic REST API to get info about any word: https://www.wordsapi.com/

It is based mainly on the WordNet database it seems, and the creator is very friendly and accessible. He also answers some questions about the project on HackerNews: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8840173

Pretty cool. It’s important for my program to be able to identify the type of new words, and convenient to learn their basic definition (common knowledge, basically). Being able to retrieve these directly by simply passing a word to a website could come in pretty handy, once I manage to hook my program up to the internet.
