What does this warning message mean?

X is unknown in pattern

It seems to happen at random (or at least I don’t have a clue as to what causes it)

in theory it means chatscript does not recognize the word you are using in your pattern as one it knows.  Either your word is correct, or maybe you misspelled what you intended.
