This just happened and may shed some light on your weird traffic. This conversation

Vince: No just an employee. Overworked and underpaid.

was accompanied by a warning that someone had attempted to access the webserver with verbs that were not recognized. Specifically PPOST and GGET. Verbs that are not recognized are automatically blocked. I searched on PPOST and found references to instagram and tmblr. Not sure how it fits, but Im wondering if the image services dont use specialized verbs for uploading images? Dont know.

Thanks, Vince.  I don’t recall seeing those specific commands, but I’ve had lots of gamers in Russia trying to upload files and images to my bots, or sending a URL that basically bragged about their scores.

I’ve put a stop to the skipping updates, as best as I can tell, but that’s drastically reduced the traffic coming to the one bot where it was an issue.  I think it confirms my theory that the problem had something to do with how contact was made with my bot, and where those visitors were from, rather than something from my update.aiml files.
